Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya met Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and Foreign Minister Ann Linde during a visit to Sweden.

Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya met Prime Minister Stefan Löfven during his ongoing visit to Sweden.

“Löfven is a leader of the European trade union movement. He has personally visited Belarus several times and collaborated with local unions. It is very important for him to support the strikes,” wrote the Belarusian on his Telegram channel.

Tikhanovskaya is a “symbol of the Belarusian people’s struggle and the peaceful opposition’s quest for democracy and human rights,” Löfven said in a press release, which did not specify what issues were discussed.

One of the talking points was the Ice Hockey World Cup, according to Svetlana Tichanovskaya. Next year it will be co-organized by Belarus and Latvia.

“As Löfven is a great fan of ice hockey, it is an honor for him to raise the question whether the Ice Hockey World Cup should be canceled or postponed,” writes the opposition leader, without making it clear what the First said Minister about it.
