There will be no B-WC in France for Damkronorna next year. The championship, which was to take place in French Angers in April, is canceled due to the pandemic.

– It’s very sad now that we’ve worked for a long time to finally get to play and hopefully move up in the A-WC, says national team defender Emmy Alasalmi.

The B-World Cup was already canceled this spring, also then due to the coronavirus.

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) writes on its website that the organizers of a number of tournaments on the youth and women’s side do not have the resources to be able to organize the championships safely for the crown.

– Of course it is very boring, but at the same time you have a great understanding of what is happening in the world right now. Then you understand the decision, says AIK’s Emmy Alasalmi.

– It is as it is and we simply have to extend the goals and take them later.

TT: How much would you have needed that opportunity to get to the A-WC?

– I think more generally for hockey Sweden on the women’s and women’s side, to give a little boost, it could have given a boost.

The next championship, if Damkronorna comes along, will be the 2022 Olympics. The Olympic qualifiers should have been played this year, but did not carry over until August next year. Now, the IIHF announces that the qualifier will likely move to November.

“Life and health come first”

– It will be three months before the actual Olympic collection, so it will be very tight there, says Alasalmi.

Damkronorna national team captain Ulf Lundberg comments on the canceled B-WC on the association’s website:

“Life and health always come first. That said, the decision is of course very boring on a sporting level. With all the positives that are happening now and that will happen in Swedish women’s and women’s hockey, a comeback advance the A-WC would have been perfect. “

The A-WC in Canada 2021 is still in planning.
