Free for 300 at the hearing, when the county administrative boards so desire

In recent days, DN has reported confusion in the culture industry about whether the new limit of eight people in public contexts applies to seated audiences or not. It is also unclear whether the restrictions apply to cinemas.

In fact, the exception for seated audiences still applies, which means that events could be held with 300 people in the audience. However, many county administrative boards have introduced regional restrictions of 50.

Earlier this week, new regulations for general meetings of 8 people were introduced, so it applies no seated audience, but it still seems to be the norm for all contexts. However, county administrative boards have the option to lower the limit to 8 for seated hearings.

– The exception that allows the organizers to receive an audience is maintained, if they can guarantee that they sit one meter away, says the Minister of Culture, Amanda Lind (MP) to DN.

If the spread of infection goes away Down again, Lind says, regions can grow in number in an infection-proof way without the government having to make new decisions. The Stockholm County Board of Directors will make a decision on Friday on which public ceiling will apply to the region, as will Västra Götaland. The Uppsala County Administrative Board has previously lowered its audience limit to 50 people, a decision that lasts until November 23, the day before the government’s restriction on eight people is put into effect.

However, several cinemas have chosen to close, despite the fact that the regional regulations have not yet been published. Filmstaden announced Wednesday morning that it will close all of its cinemas beginning November 24 and four weeks on.

– Yesterday several representatives came out and pressured that there are eight people in public contexts who apply. There will probably be so much political pressure on the regions, so that is probably where it will land regionally as well. It was also important to make a decision and take responsibility, Helena Eklund, Filmstaden’s marketing director, tells DN.

Could any regional decision affect its closure?

– No, we made a general decision from the point of view of responsibility, answers Helena Eklund.

Already at the beginning of the week, Svenska Bio announced that they will remain open regardless of whether the audience ceiling in the region is 8 or 50 people.

– In the short term, at Svenska Bio we have decided that we will be open independently of 8 or 50 people. But on the other hand, there is a great risk that movie owners will withdraw their releases based on the belief that there may only be 8 people. If they do, we should stop keeping it open, Svenska Bio CEO Peter Fornstam told DN earlier this week.

Several theaters have also decided to close, regardless of any restrictions that county administrative boards may impose on seated audiences. The drama decided in mid-November to cancel all performances until December 22.

Could the regional restrictions, which were approved on November 19, affect its temporary closure?

– No, not at the moment, it was such a serious situation at the press conference on Monday. We will have closed, we must assume our social responsibility. We can only hope that everyone else does as well in this situation so that the spread of the infection can change, says Mattias Andersson, Dramaten’s theater director and artistic director.
