– There has been an extra large delay that may be due to the heavy workload in the regions, they just haven’t had time, says Anders Tegnell, who describes the spread of infections and deaths as a slow increase over time.
– We do not have a vertiginous increase, but it is a rebound that we have seen since mid-October. Then we had 4 to 5 deaths a day and now we are up to around 20. But if we compare with how it was last spring with 70 to 80 cases, the situation is completely different now.
Anders Tegnell says the increase is, after all, “well below” the forecasts made by the Public Health Agency last fall.
– It is not the case that we have suddenly gone from these 20 daily deaths that we had before to 40, 50. That is not the case at all. Most of the deaths we received on Wednesday occurred in early November.
The figures presented during the press conferences of the Swedish Public Health Agency are always distributed over a longer period of time. As of November 3, there are 3-4 additional deaths per day compared to the statistics they showed on Tuesday, according to Anders Tegnell.
Only then is the number distributed deceased by date of death. The 96 deaths recorded does not mean 96 people died on Tuesday.
– In fact, we have stopped looking at the figures for the last week, they are so uncertain and it is always very difficult to know what they represent, especially when we are in a phase like the one we are in now, where deaths increase when the spread increases, says Anders . Tegnell.
Death rates so far in November in Sweden, on the other hand, have been the highest since at least June, according to statistics from the Swedish Public Health Agency. The highest daily figure was for November 9 and 10, where the number of deaths from covid-19 amounted to 33 and 30 deaths, respectively. The figure of 33 deaths in one day is the highest since June 11, when 35 died.
4,007 new cases of the virus were reported on Wednesday, according to figures from the Swedish Public Health Agency. In Sweden 196,446 cases have been confirmed. A total of 6,321 deaths have been recorded.
Do you see anything positive happening right now?
– I do not know. The increase is no longer as strong and it seems to be calming down. But we are careful to say something, there are long wait times for tests, for example.
– In any case, it is not the same dramatic development that it was for a while. But there are many things that come into play.
That there is now a limit of eight people, what does that mean?
– In any case, it sends a very clear signal that we are in a serious situation and we must come together to face it.
