You can celebrate Christmas without your parents – Junior: “A little sad”

Lars Lerin and her husband Junior will celebrate Christmas with all the Swedish people.

But children are not welcome in the SVT studio, they can spend Christmas Eve with a family friend.

– I’m a bit sad about that, but they are so young that they don’t understand much about Christmas, says Manoel “Junior” Marques Lerin.

You have some preconceived notions about what a Christmas host should be like after all these years and I’m not as cool as Arne Weise. But I must try to do it my way, he says.

Do you think of anything special about how you want to be a Christmas host?

– That I shouldn’t panic but that I should be very calm and that I should sit there as a friend of those who watch. There may be many lonely people for whom television is very important, so it is indeed a very big task.

Come to SVT’s studio on Christmas Eve Manoel “Junior” Marques Lerin, 43. But the couple’s two children, the children Raphael, 5 and Gabriel, 4, must stay home. At least Junior had to hesitate at first if they accepted the assignment.

– I needed to talk to Lars about it, because he was a little sad about it, he says.

Now, children can celebrate Christmas Eve with a family friend and stay in touch with their parents with the help of video calls on their mobile phones.

– They’ll be with my friend. So that day we will talk to them on Facetime and say hello. I’m a little sad about it, but they’re so young they don’t understand much about Christmas, Junior says.

Lars Lerin points out that the date is not that important because children are still young.

– We can just as easily celebrate Christmas sometime sooner or later with them, he says.

Did you try talking to SVT about taking the kids to the studio?

– It would have been fun if they could have followed him, says Junior.

– Yes, but we’ve never discussed it. They probably don’t really like children being on television, says Lars Lerin.
