The Prime Minister’s call is: Don’t go to the gym. But the gym stays open and encourages us to exercise outside or online.

The government proposes that the maximum limit for public gatherings be lowered to eight people. The proposal, which is proposed to go into effect on Tuesday next week, does not cover gyms. Therefore, Sats will keep its facilities open, says Malin Selander, communications manager for Sats Norden:

– It is important for public health that people stay active. However, we do not want to help people move in society. That is why we make other forms of training available. Among other things, we’ve put a lot of focus on rolling out the training and encouraging members to train at home with the help of our online classes.

He notes that visits to the gym have dramatically decreased.

– Instead of attracting people to our gyms, we help them train at home. We will soon resume the streamed workouts we did in the spring and which were very popular then, says Malin Selander.

Planned training

No equipment is required to participate in Sat’s webcast training, she says.

– Everything from bodyweight strength training to heart rate training and dancing.

For those who at least choose to hit the gym to exercise, there is an opportunity to check availability, Selander says. Kit has also increased the distance between the machines and limited the number of participants in training sessions.

– We have actively worked during the pandemic to ensure we have sufficient infection control routines. Both to maintain good hygiene and above all so that visitors can maintain distance between them, says Malin Selander.

You want to follow the advice

Friskis & Svettis will also be open, says Josefin Engfelt, public relations manager. According to her, the new proposal is ambiguous. While it now appears that the gym should be kept open, Friskis & Svettis, according to Engfelt, want to follow the government’s recommendations.

– As long as nothing new arrives, the measures and adjustments that we have already made are applied.

This means that the sauna and changing rooms are closed. You should not change or shower on the spot. In addition, the number of visitors allowed to stay in the facilities has been reduced, says Josefin Engfelt.

– Instead, we invest in online classes. We add new ones all the time and they are free for everyone. In addition, we have tried to get as many passes as we could. Among other things, we have a collaboration with the city of Stockholm, which we call Winter in Kungsan. From there, the passports are carried in a flag that is transmitted online. I have also seen people standing outside and exercising. Outdoor training is popular. So now we expect a mild winter.
