On Tuesday, local restrictions in the Skåne and Uppsala region were extended until December 13, and the same will happen in several other regions in the future. In Lucia, the Swedish Public Health Agency plans to introduce national restrictions that will apply during Christmas and New Years.
– We will try to meet around the national councils on weekends, because then it will be a different situation when many travel around the country. It can be very difficult to understand what applies in different regions. Then we will see if we will possibly supplement it with local advice in some places, Anders Tegnell says on Tuesday.

– We have to find out how it should work in small regions that receive a lot of visitors during Christmas so that their medical care is not overloaded, says Anders Tegnell.

– We believe that it has worked well with local measures, but little more than the weekend we have a need for coherence in the country.
On Monday, the government presented a proposal to limit public gatherings to a maximum of eight people. The proposal is expected to be drawn up as early as Thursday and will be valid for four weeks from November 24. This means that the majority of the population of Sweden has to comply with national recommendations, local measures and legal restrictions.
Doesn’t Monday’s government announcement remove many of the local restrictions that the Public Health Agency and the regions have introduced?
– No, I think our local restrictions are in many respects stricter because we are talking about you not really meeting anyone outside of your own family. Then we and the government go in and regulate at a detailed level in different ways, so I think they complement each other rather than contradict each other.
