It’s time to re-evaluate traditional parquet flooring – the flooring of the future is here. This is the opinion of Bjelin Sweden AB, which has unique investment opportunities and wants to become a world leader with its durable, hardened wood flooring.
Did you know that Sweden has the highest per capita land consumption in Europe? The floors we walk on play an important role in our homes, and the wooden floor is the main one. Several times throughout history, the methods of manufacturing and laying wooden floors have changed, and here Välinge Innovation and its founder Darko Pervan have participated and driven development. In the 90s, he developed the click floor technology, generally accepted today, revolutionary then.
– The click floor met with some resistance at first, and this is usually the case when a change occurs and new innovations replace old proven methods. Now we are facing the same process again with our hardened wood flooring, which we believe will revolutionize the flooring industry again, says Johan Larsson, sales and marketing manager at Bjelin Sweden AB.
A unique position
Bjelin was formed to act as a sales company for Välinge Innovation. With Välinge Innovation behind him, Bjelin can run further and faster than any other competitor in the world.
Herringbone Parquet or Composite Floor – Inspired Here
– We have a high capacity in terms of investment rate thanks to our sister company investing more in flooring and developing new flooring techniques than all flooring companies in the world put together. Therefore, Välinge Innovation makes large investments that we have access to. It’s a unique position, says Johan Larsson.
This is the Woodura method
Proof of the high investment capacity is the state-of-the-art factory in Skåne’s Bay, which was built in connection with the founding of Bjelin. Here, the hardened wood flooring is manufactured using the Woodura method.
The method consists of sprinkling a powder composed of binder, wood powder, and pigment onto an HDF board which is then covered with a thin wooden board, a so-called veneer. When you then add heat and pressure, the result is a completely new type of flooring, three times more durable than regular parquet. Sustainable in the double sense of the word.
– Hardened wood flooring never needs sanding. Also, it is significantly more environmentally friendly because we use 100 percent of the oak during production. The traditional production of 400 square meters of parquet requires ten oak trees and then two thirds of the material is wasted. For us, an oak at 400 square meters is enough, says Johan Larsson.
This reduces heavy transport
Bjelin has secured its oak supply and has built three factories of its own in Croatia a few kilometers from the FSC certified oak forests. Being in the place where the raw material is located, the number of heavy transports to production in Viken is reduced.
– When we talk about our soils, it is difficult not to talk about sustainability. For us at Bjelin, it’s about all of us getting involved and sharing today’s climate impact into the future. Tomorrow’s consumer will set significantly higher environmental requirements, but then we are already there and can meet them, says Johan Larsson.
