PARIS. Janne Andersson is not at the Stade de France on Tuesday night.
But the national team captain still leads the national team, away from home on the TV couch.
– He decides in the end, says Peter Wettergren.
Against Croatia, national team captain Janne Andersson was suspended following warnings against Portugal a month ago.
But a positive covid19 test has meant that Andersson could not be present either at the international game against Denmark last week or when the fate of Sweden’s League of Nations is decided against France on Tuesday night.
Andersson, however, will be very present.
Sweden needs to make a good result against France, but is also affected by how things are going between Croatia and Portugal, which is played at the same time.
– We monitor the game that is played in Croatia. We know from the bench how it goes there and if we have to do something we will do it from the bench. But what he says in that match is not something we inform the players of during the match, says assistant national team captain Peter Wettergren during a press conference at the Stade de France stadium.
Janne Andersson, in corona insulation, will be in place with the TV sofa in her home, 1,800 kilometers from the French capital.
– Janne has been involved in this entire collection. In our preparations, Janne, our analyst Kristoffer (Bernspång) and I have worked very closely, says assistant national team captain Peter Wettergren.
– Janne is the head coach and finally decides if it would be a difficult situation. We talk to each other two or three times a day.
– You can have contact with Christoffer (in the stands) who can notify us on the bench. If Janne sees something on television, she can report it to Bernspång, who can pass it to us by the field.
– It’s like before, but we could have wanted it here, says Peter Wettergren with a crooked smile.
This means Janne Andersson can also send directives directly to the Swedish bank if Blågult needs to quickly chase goals after a position change in the Croatia-Portugal side match.
– We have talked about different scenarios if we should do something. We have a plan for that, Wettergren says.
