The government is concerned about the further spread of the infection and that many do not take the risk of infection seriously.
Therefore, public events and public gatherings with more than eight people should now be banned.
The amendment to the ordinance, which is based on the Public Order Law, will take effect on November 24 and will run for four weeks.
– This is a very intrusive measure, but absolutely necessary, says Löfven.
– More prohibition is needed to reduce the curve on the number of infected.
Can not prohibit
The government wants everyone to avoid meetings and encounters with more than eight people. But, for example, the government cannot ban private parties and large private dinners.
On the other hand, Löfven hopes that the strict ban on public gatherings and public events with more than eight people will make everyone think and that it will become a norm for society as a whole.
– It is a very clear signal for all the people of our country and for the whole society, says Löfven.
– Do your duty and take responsibility for stopping the spread of the infection.
No artists
Another forceful measure that the government is now announcing is that the exemption in the audience ceiling for restaurants with artists who entertain diners is eliminated. Since October 8, these restaurants have had a seated audience that exceeds the audience limit. But as of November 24 it will be practically impossible to invite diners to live music, since then only eight people will be able to attend.
The rules for restaurant visits have been tightened in several stages during the fall. No more than eight people are allowed to sit at the same table. Last week, the government proposed to stop serving alcohol in the pub after 10 p.m. The stop should take effect on November 20 and apply until the last month of February.
No meaning
The infection situation has deteriorated rapidly in recent weeks.
As recently as October 22, the government decided on some easing in banning public gatherings and public events for more than 50 people.
Exceptions were made, for example, for theaters, concerts, cinemas, and sporting events with seats. In such cases, up to 300 people were allowed with a certain distance between them.
It is true that the exception remains, but in practice it does not matter that all regions of the country have stuck to the maximum limit of 50 people. And that ceiling has now been lowered from 50 to eight people.
