Tens of thousands of protesters loyal to Trump marched through the streets of Washington DC on Saturday.
The dreaded riots largely disappeared and by 10 p.m. local time, only a few minor riots had been reported and a handful of people had been arrested.
From early morning until well after dark, supporters marched against President Donald Trump in the United States capital on Saturday.
Police observed much of the demonstration, but the first reports of problems came first in the afternoon they reached Washington. Around 300 counter-protesters tried to provoke Trump supporters with slogans, which turned into physical disturbances and around 10 people were abducted by the police.
Several of them were arrested, according to Fox News, for violating the DC district gun laws, which are stricter than those of neighboring states, where it is not allowed to carry guns openly.
One more hospital
As night fell, more riots were reported, the Washington Post reports. Among other things, fireworks must have been set off and tables where Trump-related products were sold were overturned and set ablaze. Later, one person was rushed to hospital after an alleged knife cut.
Exactly how many protesters marched to show support for the incumbent president and protest the “establishment’s” election results was still unclear on Saturday night.
Trump tweeted that “hundreds of thousands” had gathered, while his spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany estimated that more than a million had gathered, which was seen by independent observers as a huge exaggeration.

Washington police have not made an estimate of how many crowds turned out, but news outlets from the AFP news agency to Fox News television say they are in the tens of thousands.
Early Saturday, the president himself passed protesters in a column with his security entourage. Then he would head to his golf course in Sterling, Virginia.
Trump refuses to continue to acknowledge Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election in early November, most recently on Twitter on Sunday morning Swedish time.
