Five mosques in Sweden exposed to the same threats and hatred

These are mosques in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Luleå, and Malmö.

– As we understand it, it was a similar message and a dust that the other mosques received, says Anas Deneche, communications manager for the Great Mosque of Eskilstuna, who has been in contact with the other mosques.

The act in France may have played a role

Hate crimes can be of a different nature. It may be about vandalism, harassment, or threats in the form of shipping. The common thing is that hate crimes are prioritized in the work of the police. Now the police expect a suspect to be arrested in this case.

– We have good coordination in the country between the regions where those who work intelligently will dialogue. In this case, we have to do technical research on the shipments to see if we can move forward, says Thomas Bergqvist, Eskilstuna Municipal Police.

– You can draw the conclusion that things like this happen with respect to what is happening in our world. Some things have happened in France, and those things resonate, he says.

Large dark number

According to the Eskilstuna police, it is not so common that there are reports of similar threats affecting the mosque. At the same time, the police believe that there are a lot of blackouts. Something that is confirmed by the Great Mosque of Eskilstuna.

– It may be for fear of being seen in public. Being seen in the media can attract the attention of people who have more violent ideas, and therefore mosques do not always report threats and hatred directed at them, says Anas Deneche.
