The team had presented their lineups and Timrå was on the spot in Uppsala.
But despite both teams warming up at Upplands bilforum arena, there was no match between Almtuna and Timrå.
Shortly before the start of the match, Almtuna arrived with a grim covid-19 message.
“Oh my gosh! 13 Almtuna players have tested positive, all are confirmed cases. Tonight’s match against Timrå IK is canceled”writes Andreas Hansson, commentator for C More, on Twitter.
The players left the ice
Strange images were shown on C More, of confused players who had to leave the warm-up and enter the locker room.
– You see, players realize this in the warm-up, says commentator Lars Lindberg on C More.
– Raise your eyebrows.
Almtuna also confirmed that the match would be canceled just fourteen minutes before kick-off and team doctor Stefan Johansson says that no one on the team felt ill.
– It was disappointing, of course. Everyone felt healthy and wanted to play, but of course they understood that it was not possible, Johansson tells UNT.
“No one showed any symptoms”
The message arrived at six o’clock.
– Together with Erik Ryman (hockeyallsvenskan sports director), the referees and Timrå’s doctor, we made the decision not to play the match, says Johansson.
Before the test results, there was no indication that the players were ill, according to the doctor.
– All the players were evaluated during the morning and I had conversations with all of them and none showed any symptoms, so the assessment was made that the game could be played.
It was like this to come home again for Timrå who is in second place in allsvenskan hockey after 13 games played. Almtuna ranks ninth.
