The infection is increasing in Dalarna. The region has long been waiting for the Public Health Agency to decide whether to introduce the local general councils with them as well, but now they are starting to get enough.
– We can no longer sit back and wait on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the infection increases. If we do not receive a message tomorrow, we will take matters into our own hands, says Ulf Berg (M), regional councilor.
After the spread of Covid-19 slowed somewhat during the late summer and early fall, the Dalarna region is again in a very dire situation. With the spread of the infection increasing at a rapid rate, the region can no longer wait for a decision from the Public Health Agency, which will never come, says Ulf Berg, regional councilor.
– It should be the spread of the infection that determines when the restrictions will be applied. Not on Tuesdays and Thursdays, when the Public Health Agency has chosen to hold press conferences.
In recent weeks, region after region has received stricter advice. This has caused great frustration in Dalarna.
– It feels like a lottery. We have to put in the resources now and not when it starts to get very, very bad. We are prepared and we need a decision, now.
If the Dalarna region does not get a decision at Thursday’s press conference, they will do the same as Blekinge and put their own resources to present new local councils.
– I am disappointed with the strategy of the Public Health Agency that they have now. Sweden is in the middle of a second wave and then we can’t just sit back and wait for Tuesday and Thursday to come around for something to be done.

“We are not alone”
The Dalarna region plans to introduce the same local council that the Public Health Agency previously recommended.
– Of course, it is part of it to discourage travel within and between regions, as well as to avoid public transport, avoid crowds and commerce. If we do this at the right time, maybe people can celebrate Christmas and go on a ski vacation.
Ulf Borg says he has spoken to colleagues in several other regions who are also disappointed that the Public Health Agency has not given them local restrictions either.
– We are not the only ones disappointed and we think that you should reconsider your strategy, and I really hope this reaches the Public Health Agency now.
– If we don’t make a decision tomorrow, we will make it ourselves.
Can you tell it is an ultimatum that you are giving?
– You could say it is a statement. In the Dalarna region, we can decide 365 days a year, not just Tuesdays and Thursdays, concludes Ulf Berg (M).
Anders Lindblom, infection control physician in the Dalarna region, agrees that stricter local councils will soon be needed:
– If the Swedish Public Health Agency does not act soon, we will have to take matters into our own hands. But I would prefer that we do so in consultation with the Swedish Public Health Agency in the next few days.
Maja Gilbert Westholm (V), opposition council trusts the infection control doctor.
– It appears a little from time to time who thinks many things. But I have great confidence in our infection control physician who has close daily contact with the Public Health Agency. They are experts and in this situation we politicians must understand that we are actually secular.
