When corona-infected people end up on a respirator, it’s a strain even for their family members. In addition to anxiety and loneliness, family members bear witness to weight loss, according to a research report now being compiled at Luleå University of Technology, reports SVT Nyheter Norrbotten.
The study is based on interviews with relatives of twelve patients who were treated on a ventilator.
– All the people I have interviewed have described a weight loss of around ten kilos, Åsa Engström, a nursing teacher, tells SVT.
During the interviews, it has also emerged that the contact between the VAT rooms and the family members was important and appreciated.
– It’s incredibly important to get confirmation. Knowing that the person who is seriously ill receives good care, how they feel, but also that someone cares how I feel at home, says Åsa Engström.
