The spread of covid-19 is also increasing in the country’s nursing homes. Nearly 400 people have recently been infected in 34 different outbreaks in homes, according to an analysis by SVT Nyheter.
The review is based on reports that the regions’ infection control units sent to the Swedish Public Health Agency between September 21 and October 28. Several cases are reported to be larger cluster infections, where at least 15 people were infected in each outbreak. In one outbreak, 28 employees and 13 elderly people were infected.
The number of infections is likely higher because the numbers are only based on information that infection control units know and have investigated.
– I am very concerned that this continues to increase. Therefore, we would like to see legal opportunities to introduce a restraining order in nursing homes and legal opportunities to isolate infected insane people from other residents, says Greger Bengtsson, coordinator of care for the elderly in the municipalities and regions from Sweden, SKR, to SVT.
