More recently, yesterday, Monday, the region announced via a press release that it is temporarily reducing, during week 46, the number of corona tests by 25 percent. The reason is that the pressure has become very high in the testing laboratory and therefore the response times have also become too long.
– It is unfortunate, but fast response times are essential to detect and stop the chains of infection. We are purposefully working on a number of future solutions to further increase capacity and we hope this will be a temporary measure this week, Jan Kilhamn, regional sampling coordinator, said in the press release.
And now the region wants to bring tests to labs in Denmark and Germany, writes SVT Nyheter Väst. The laboratory is located in Aarhus and Munich, respectively.
“We believe that speeds are essential”
– We believe that speed is essential for confidence in the sampling chain, says Jan Kilhamn to SVT.
The tests could, if the plan goes ahead, be expanded by 20,000 a week, from the current roughly 25,000 tests to 45,000.
The sampling materials are now shipped from Germany, packed in Sahlgrenska, and then sent to health centers in the region.
– We didn’t drive at full power first, but first we drive a pilot with some spring centers. When it works, we will change as quickly as we can, says Jan Kilhamn to SVT.
