Sven Wollter was diagnosed with Covid-19 in late October. He became infected during a trip with his family in Stockholm.
Sven Justus Fredrik Wollter was born on January 11, 1934 in Gothenburg as the son of publisher Kjell Wollter and his wife Elsa. He studied at the Gothenburg City Theater student school from 1953 to 1957 and was subsequently hired by, among others, Pionjärteater, Bygdeteatern, Riksteatern and Tv-teatern 1966-1967.
Sven Wollter returned to the Gothenburg City Theater 1967, where he worked until 1983, followed by two years at the Folkteatern in Gävle and then at the Stockholm City Theater from 1986. His participation in the traveling Tent Project, a new form of political theater, called him “the greatest I’ve ever been through, although I’ve played countless important roles. “

Wollter became nationally known and soon popularized through his participation in SVT’s Vilhelm Moberg series “Raskens” during the 1970s. Many of his contributions to film made a huge impact, including as Police Inspector Lennart. Kollberg in Bo Widerberg’s film “The Man on the Roof”, as Police Inspector Bo Jarnebring in Widerberg’s “The Man from Mallorca” and a tramp in Jon Lindström’s “The Last Game” (1984).
The last movie resulted in a Golden Bug to the best actor. Sven Wollter also received another ram for the title role in Bille August’s “A Song for Martin” in 2001.
Wollter also published several books, including the autobiographical “Boy with a Bow; reflections in words and images ”. He also released a solo album with Swedish performances by Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits, as well as the album “Songs from the 20th century” (2009) where he performed political songs by, among others, Dan Berglund, Bertolt Brecht and Joe Hill. Sven Wollter was politically active and a member of the Communist Party, formerly the KPML (r).
Among his roles in recent years was the lead role in Hjalmar Bergman’s “Swedenhielms” at Östgötateatern 2014 and “Kung Lear” the same year. Wollter retired from the theater in 2016.
In recent years he traveled across the country to say goodbye to scenes that meant a lot to him in his career. In 2016, he performed again at the Gothenburg City Theater, where he trained in the 1950s, to perform his friend Henning Mankell’s monologue “Driving Miles.”
– I don’t intend to continue until they can get me out. In any case, this will be my last premiere on this stage, he later told the DN envoy.
He felt finished and satisfied.

Sven Wollter recently lived in Luleå. He died at Sunderby Hospital in Luleå and the family is grateful to the intensive care unit staff who cared for him.

Sven Wollter was married between 1956 and 1958 to Maja-Brita Mossberg. He has five children from later marriages and relationships: daughters Ylva and Stina Wollter from his second marriage to Annie Jenhoff, daughter Lina Wollter from Evabritt Strandberg, son Karl Seldahl from Viveka Seldahl, and son Magnus from Maria Lindgren. Wollter married journalist Lisa Wede in 2003.
