National team assistant captain Peter Wettergren takes over the national team when Janne Andersson is in quarantine.
But there is no talk about who is the boss.
– Run the team from home, says Wettergren.
Federation Captain Janne Andersson has been placed in corona quarantine after a family member tested positive for COVID-19. This means that he will not be present when the national team meets Denmark on Wednesday.
– Okay, but he’s disappointed. We will plan a tryout later this week to see if he has a chance to join later this week if he feels good, says national team doctor Anders Valentin.
“Do not use technical solutions”
Until now, it is the assistant captain of the national team Peter Wettergren who takes over the national team. But according to him, it’s still Andersson who’s the boss.
– Janne is with us anyway. We have contact almost all the time by phone and he is in charge of this team from home, he says and continues:
– The only difference is that I can do a little more here on the site. Janne is still the manager and responsible for the team selection and so on. But clearly it is an honor to take a step forward.
We know Janne’s technical limitations, is it just the phone that counts?
– A lot has been done during the preparation period in which Bernspång, Janne and I work on a daily basis: what images should we use, what theory should we use, what team should we play with. Then we reach an agreement over the phone, as if we sit at the table here (in the hotel) and we agree. But that we should not use any technical solution with Janne Andersson, there we completely agree.
Wettergren hopes to take the lead, although he believes it is challenging.
– I have concentrated a lot on the defensive game and Janne on the attack game, now it will be that you take them all. For me, it’s about arriving with the necessary energy. I will be demanding a lot from myself to deliver when I enter the players, so I see it as a great challenge.
