The decision is based on the amendments to the law that came into force at the end of 2018/2019, which means that the Swedish School Inspectorate will now test the perception and suitability of the circle of owners, as well as the financial conditions to manage a school.
The reason the Swedish School Inspectorate is now withdrawing its approval for the school is that after an inspection it is considered that there are serious deficiencies in the headmaster’s circle of owners and management.
– There are two things we write in our decision. One is that we assess that the new owner has entered into a bulwark relationship with the previous owner, which means that the previous owner still has significant influence over the school inspection, says Andreas Gydingsgård, unit manager for the Swedish school inspection.
The security police have warned
This spring the founder of the school also sold the business to the then deputy principal and it is this change of ownership that the Swedish School Inspectorate has now examined and disapproves of.
– We have also received information that two people active in extremist environments have been to the school on several occasions and that one of the people had access to the school facilities even outside of school hours. We have also received information from the Security Police where connections between the school and the extremist environment have been observed even after the change of ownership, says Andreas Gydingsgård.
The decision to close the school applies as of December 31, 2020.
Previous warnings
The Security Police previously warned the Swedish School Inspectorate in a statement that children in school are at risk of being exposed to radicalization and recruitment in violent environments. Several teachers have also warned of deficiencies in the operation.
In December 2019, the education committee in Gävle decided that the independent Muslim preschool Bilaal, also in Bomhus in Gävle, would be closed. Even there, the security police had sounded the alarm.
