Anders Christiansen did not feel well after celebrating the goal.
Later in the evening, “AC” tested positive for the coronavirus and the golden dinner was canceled.
Malmö FF will stop all operations next week.
Coach Jon Dahl Tomasson missed today’s game because he tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week. But Malmö FF secured the gold without a regular coach in place and it would be celebrated with an inner circle dinner.
As the player’s bus headed to Malmö Live, where the dinner was to be held, the celebration was canceled.
Team captain Anders Christiansen did not feel well after the on-field celebration and had to stay at the stadium for a quick test. He was positive.
No symptoms before the game
– Anders didn’t feel anything before the game. He put in a lot of effort on the field, celebrated afterward and conducted interviews, but when his adrenaline subsided he felt listless and his stomach ached. When the other players left by bus, Anders stayed with our team doctor and took a quick test that came back positive, sports director Daniel Andersson tells the MFF website.
So there was no gold celebration for the new champions.
– Of course, this is sad for everyone, says President Anders Pålsson.
Pause business
Since before, in addition to Tomasson, assistant coach Remy Reijmjerse has also tested positive for the virus. The two leaders were the only confirmed cases before the game.
Malmö FF now chooses to pause all activities with the men’s team next week and all players, coaches and leaders are sent home.
The gold match is followed by a national team break and it takes two weeks before it is time for the match again for MFF.
Several players have been selected for the respective national team meetings, including Christiansen, who will miss Denmark’s training match against Sweden.
