In September, new information on the damage to the Estonian hull was presented in a documentary series. A man who survived the sinking later requested that the preliminary investigation be resumed.
Gunnar Merkel, RÅ’s head of supervision, says he will investigate possible criminal suspicions.
“We have rules to follow when it comes to prescription,” he tells Ekot.
Merkel hopes to reach a decision in a few weeks.
No decision to investigate Estonia
The Estonian disaster in 1994 killed 852 people.
In the documentary series on Dplay, information emerged about a large hole in the Estonian hull, and further demands were made that the wreck should be examined. Subsequently, the discovery of another hole in the hull was announced.
But no decision has been made on the Estonian remains that will be re-examined.
– It will not be this year, it will be after the turn of the year as soon as you can imagine now, the investigator of the Swedish Accident Investigation Board, Jörgen Zachau, recently told the radio.
