Millions of minks will be killed in Denmark after the coronavirus was discovered on mink farms.

The UK has introduced an immediate entry ban for Danes following the coronavirus outbreaks in Danish mink farms. In Denmark, the slaughter of all the minks in the country has begun.

The entry ban for Danes went into effect on Saturday morning.

“Visitors coming to the UK from Denmark will not be able to enter the UK,” Transport Minister Grant Shapps wrote on Twitter.

Non-British citizens who have been or traveled in Denmark for the past 14 days will also be denied entry, according to Shapps, while Britons who have been in Denmark will isolate themselves for two weeks.

Denmark has introduced severe restrictions in several municipalities in North Jutland after the coronavirus in mink farms mutated and spread to humans. Earlier this year, more than 200 people received some type of mutated virus, at least one of which may be resistant to future vaccines, and the Danish government has decided that all minks in the country should be euthanized.

According to the Danish police, this is between 15 and 17 million minks.

The job of killing the minks is already in full swing and is expected to be finished by the end of next week, the National Police says in a press release, according to Ritzau.

The entry ban will be evaluated after a week, writes Reuters.
