Fabric mouth guards may seem more modern, but how well they protect you against the crown is questionable.
One of the models is manufactured by Adidas. On the website, the company writes that the mask is a “fashion item” that does not meet any medical requirements.

According to Hans Jørn Kolmos, professor of clinical microbiology at the University of Southern Denmark, you shouldn’t buy Adidas mouth guard or any similar face mask, according to Ekstrabladet.
– It’s a pure fashion phenomenon. You have to go way beyond that. We don’t wear mouth guards for fun. It may have something trendy, but we use it to prevent infection in one way or another, he tells the newspaper.
At the same time, he says that cloth face masks can be better than having no protection over your mouth.
– They are not as good as disposable mouth guards, but they are better than nothing. I have a cloth mouthguard myself that I use when I don’t have a disposable mouthguard on hand. But if you buy one in fabric, it must be of good quality.

Ekstrabladet has contacted Adidas and asked why they would buy mouth guards when they offer no protection. They also asked if the company is good enough to report that they do not provide any clinical protection.

The mask was developed earlier this year as a daily variant that is washable and comfortable compared to other products on the market. Swedish Oral Protection Policy
Denmark has introduced requirements for mouth protection in various public places. But the Swedish Public Health Agency does not currently recommend “a wide use of mouth guards in society”.
