Since November 2015, Sweden has temporarily reintroduced border controls against other countries included in the Schengen work, the so-called internal border, which is extended every six months.
On Thursday, the government announced again that the controls will extend until May 11, 2021.
Border control should contribute to the security of the country, provide the opportunity to detect threats from possible perpetrators and prevent terrorist attacks.
– The level of terrorist threats in Sweden remains at a high level and our combined assessment is that border controls to Sweden are still necessary, says Interior Minister Mikael Damberg (S) in the press release.
According to a decision by the head of the security police in February this year, the level of terrorist threat in Sweden is at level three out of five. The decision has not been changed due to events in France and Austria in recent weeks.
