Midfielder Jens Cajuste left Örgryte in the summer of 2018 to play for FC Midtjylland. There, he has a bit in the shadow of other foreign professionals who have become a key player in the Danish team.
He was involved in winning league gold last season and this year has further cemented his place in Midtjylland’s midfield. He has started five of seven league games and all of them in the Champions League.
Now he reaches the next milestone in his career, as the sole rookie in the squad for the Nations League matches against Croatia and France, and the international training match against Denmark. Cajuste has dual citizenship, but is now opting out of the United States in favor of Sweden.
– It’s very funny that you have chosen to represent Sweden, says the captain of the national team Janne Andersson at the press conference on Wednesday.
In an interview with SVT the other day, Cajuste himself told how he saw the choice of the national team.
– There are many factors that come into play. I talk to my family about how they feel and how I feel, of course. Being able to represent your country is one of the most important things you can do in football and it would be a great honor, regardless of whether it is Sweden or the United States, Cajuste told SVT.
When asked how he would react to a call from Janne Andersson, Cajuste replied:
We’ll see, but it would be a great honor.
Otherwise you can indicate that former Djurgården golden running back Marcus Danielson, now at Dalian China, is also back in the national team. He has missed several international games during the fall due to quarantine rules during the corona pandemic.
Ludwig Augustinsson, Werder Bremen and Pontus Jansson, Brentford, on the other hand, resign due to injury. Sebastian Andersson from Cologne also has feelings of injury and renounces the collection.
The main numbers during the next team meeting are the last two Nations League games against Croatia at home and France away on November 14 and 17 respectively. Sweden have four losses in a row so far, but still have a theoretical chance of avoiding last place, which means relegation to Division B of the tournament.
Before that, Sweden will play an international training match against Denmark in Copenhagen on Wednesday of next week.
