Joe Biden: The wall threatens Biden –

[ad_1]

All predictions of a landslide victory by Joe Biden and the Democrats proved unfounded. In the best of cases, you can expect 290 voters in the electoral college, writes Politico.

That’s more than the minimum 270 voters required, but there is no indication that the United States is clearly saying no to Donald Trump and Trumpism.

No mandate for change

Biden lost ground among blacks and among voters of Latin American descent, although he gained little among whites.

Furthermore, the Democrats’ hopes of regaining a majority in the Senate do not appear to be realized. According to many polls, Democratic candidates had a chance to win in several states, but the results do not indicate this.

Right now, the numbers are the same, but they speak for a Republican Senate. Republicans have won 47 seats, while Democrats have 46, according to CNN. In total, Democrats need 50 seats if Biden wins and 51 if Trump wins.

So Republican Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority Leader who was re-elected in his home state of Kentucky, appears to retain control of the Senate and thus remains perhaps Washington’s most important politician, Politico writes.

Without the control of Congress

In that case, Biden will be the first president in 32 years to take office without having control over Congress. This would seriously weaken their ability to implement reforms. Just as the Republicans were able to stop Barack Obama during his second term.

Joe Biden, as president, would jump in in part by uniting the right and the left in his own party, and in part by fighting the majority of Republicans, where the win is still strong, in Congress.

Making new laws would be a difficult fight. Among other things, discussions about the expansion of the Supreme Court are likely to be empty words, at least until the next Senate election in two years.

At the same time, this is the best scenario for Biden and the Democrats. The worst case scenario for them is that there is a real chance that Trump will win the election and sit in the White House for another four years.
