American election: Trump’s accusations against Biden without reason

President Donald Trump accuses the Democrats of cheating and trying to “steal the elections.”

An unsubstantiated statement, says Ian Higham, an expert on the American electoral system.

– I have not seen anything that indicates that there has been electoral fraud, he says.

“They’re working hard to get rid of the 500,000 lead in Pennsylvania.”

“You find voices of Biden everywhere: in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan. Too bad for our country! “

“How is it that every time the votes by letters are counted, they are devastating in percentage and have destructive forces?”

During the day, the president has tweeted various allegations that voter fraud is behind the shocking results between him and presidential candidate Joe Biden. But this is far from the first time Donald Trump has raised the issue of voter fraud.

Preparing for court

– In 2016, he said eleven million illegal immigrants voted, but there was no evidence for that then and there is no evidence for that now, says Ian Higham, a doctoral student at Stockholm University who is an expert on the American electoral system.

Throughout the campaign, Trump has aroused mistrust, primarily in mail-order voting, which has increased in scope this year due to the corona pandemic.

– He is probably preparing to take the matter to the Supreme Court if he loses. But generally more evidence is required than one person to say that there has been voter fraud. And I haven’t seen anything to suggest that, says Ian Higham.

There is no reason

Trump’s campaign staff have now filed a lawsuit demanding that they stop counting votes in Michigan because they don’t feel they have had enough information on how the count is done.

Many Trump supporters claim that the change in the state, where more than 100,000 votes were suddenly recorded for Biden, indicates election fraud. What could it be?

– Municipalities usually report all votes at the same time, but I cannot say for sure that this is what happened here, says Ian Higham.

Is there any basis in the president’s accusations?

– No. But like I said, he has filed fraud charges in the past and said that this would happen throughout the campaign, without presenting any proof of it. So it is not surprising.
