The preschool administration in Gothenburg has decided on new recommendations for picking up and dropping off preschool children, as the spread of the new coronavirus has increased dramatically.
According to the latest figures, 26,260 have been infected by the virus in the Västra Götaland region. 879 people have died.
Last week, 2,984 new covid cases were discovered, which is double the number the week before. On Tuesday, the region announced that it is re-entering personal mode.

New rules of conduct were also sent to guardians with preschool children in Gothenburg municipality on Tuesday:
- Delivery and collection should be done outdoors, in preschools whenever possible.
- In other preschools, it may be relevant, for example, with a limit to the number of people who can be in the preschool room at the same time.
- The preschool administration asks parents and guardians to “avoid entering the preschool facilities as much as possible.” If you still have to get in, keep your distance and get out quickly again.
- If you want to talk to the preschool staff “for a long time,” the administration asks you to call.

The municipality: “You must feel safe”
It is the director of each preschool who decides which routines to introduce. It is also the principal who must ensure that the tutors receive information about what is applied in each preschool.
– It should feel safe for children to pick up and drop off. You have to design it differently in different preschools, it depends on the conditions, says Annika Lovén, head of education for the Gothenburg primary school administration.
– Therefore, we have not decided that everyone should do exactly the same. We recommend that you pick up and go outdoors where you can, in other cases it may be a limited number of guards at the same time at the entrance.
Also remember that one should show consideration and stay away from other people.
However, there is no prohibition or deterrent from going to preschool if you need to.
– It is not the intention that guardians should have the impression that they are not allowed in, you can if you need to. Of course, you should go and pick up extra clothes or say something short to the staff, says Annika Lovén.

The new rules apply until Thursday, November 19. The recommendations can then be abolished, modified or expanded.
We’ll see, since local recommendations apply so far, we’ve put this recommendation so far. So of course we have to keep track of how it goes, says Annika Lovén.
Has there been talk of closing kindergartens completely?
– Not absolutely not. We try to stay open as long as possible.
Development conversations and other meetings are now postponed as well, alternately replaced by phone calls and digital meetings.
The open preschool centers of the preschool administration will be completely closed between Thursday, November 5 and Thursday, November 19.
