Infection control deputy doctor Mattias Waldeck says the number of infections is increasing in Skåne.
– We see a continuous strong increase. Last week we had 900 more cases than the week before. In the last seven days, we have an average of 370 cases per day and some days more than 500 cases per day.
The infection now also appears to be spreading to more and more nursing homes.
– Last week we saw a significant increase in the elderly, says Mattias Waldeck.
Testing capacity is increased
– If I look at our testing capacity, this summer it was 5,000 tests per week. We have quintupled capacity since then and are now expanding even further. We will open another ten sampling sites, says regional director Alf Jönsson.
– We also want to ask for patience. Sampling is increasing very fast. We want to avoid having to test you by following the advice we have, he says and urges the people of Skåne to think twice before entering a shop or going to the pub.
– We clearly see that Skåne people travel less. Fifteen to twenty percent less than a few weeks earlier and half compared to what it was a year ago, he says of public transportation.
“Avoid unnecessary tests”
He urges that you only get tested for the coronavirus if you have symptoms.
– We must all take responsibility and be helped so that resources are sufficient.
He also says that it is important that you do not think that there is no danger of catching it because you do not belong to a risk group.
– By preventing you from getting infected, you can help reduce the risk of other people getting infected. I really want to urge all Scans to avoid shopping and partying at this time. There are no meetings, not after work. Help protect the elderly by avoiding infection.
Compared to Stockholm and Västra Götaland, Skåne has a slightly flatter curve when it comes to increasing patients admitted to hospital at the moment, but the number is also increasing in Skåne.
