Eight points in nine games. Later, Ville Nieminen decides to voluntarily quit his coaching job at Modo. “I’ve been thinking about it for a week,” he says according to Sportbladet.

It was a short trip to the Swedish ice hockey town Örnsköldsvik and the classic Modo for Ville Nieminen. He has thrown in the towel after a poor start to the season at Hockeyallsvenskan.

Local newspaper Allehanda revealed the news and Modo confirms it.

Nieminen has taken the initiative to break the two-year agreement. He does so after the team has scored eight points in nine games and is at the bottom of the table.

– I came to Modo with an open mind, a pure heart and open letters, but I have chosen to resign as the head coach of Modo, he says according to Sportbladet.

– I’ve been thinking about it for a week. I feel like we haven’t been able to translate what we do in training into the game, and I haven’t been able to help the team in the way I want.

The Finn announced the players on Tuesday night. He says there is nothing bad to say about his relationship with Modo.

– This organization is made up of amazing people. We have played with open cards.

– There are emotions behind. These are the people we are talking about, so it’s natural. It is a difficult decision, but we have to work with an honest person. I support Ville. He is a very ambitious coach, says sports director Fredrik Glader.

I was fired last year

Last season, Modo played well and was on his way to the SHL playoffs. After that, the coach and many players left.

Nieminen came in to build something new. It has not gone well.

Now he is going home to Finland.

– In the future I can train somewhere, but now I will go home. I have three children and should be a good father. That’s what matters to me now. I have not been much in the lives of my children.

Ville Nieminen has a long playing career behind him with the 2001 Stanley Cup title, 2006 Olympic silver and FM medals.

As a coach, he has been heavier. He has led Jukurit and Pelicans in the Finnish league. Just a year ago, he was fired from his coaching job at the Pelicans.
