Last week, the spread of the infection in Halland increased by 140 percent. This is the reason why extended local restrictions will apply here as well. On Monday alone, 116 new cases were registered.

– The situation has worsened, says infection control doctor Maria Ryberg Mo at a press conference.

The average age of those newly infected in Halland is 44. Fifteen people with covid-19 are treated in the hospital, two of them in the intensive care unit.

– We have seen a spread of the infection also in the care of the elderly, says the infection control doctor.

Although the tests are very extensive, a large proportion of the people tested are infected; the most recent list is 8.5 percent of those tested.

– It is concerning in many ways, says infection control assistant doctor Maria Löfgren.

Health and Medical Care Director Martin Engström recalls that the strictest local restrictions are ultimately aimed at all who help reduce the spread of infection.

– You should not look for opportunities to try to say that you follow advice, but still live as normally as possible. The point is, you should refrain from physical contact with people you don’t live with, and in any way that you can help minimize the spread of the infection, Engström says.

The number of people with covid-19 in Halland who are treated in the hospital is about half, compared to when it was at its worst this spring.

Fixed: 116 new cases is Monday’s figure
