On Monday, 96 people with covid-19 were hospitalized in the Västra Götaland region. This can be compared to 53 patients two weeks earlier. By Tuesday, the number had risen to 119.
The sharp increase in the number of infected patients has caused the region to go up in personnel mode, which means that a special medical care directorate monitors the development of events and takes the necessary measures.
– This means that we are now meeting to better respond to the influx of patients. We had a huge increase from 96 hospitalized patients yesterday to 119 patients today. This is the main reason we are in a personal situation and we see that planned care is beginning to be pushed aside, says Ann Söderström, director of health and medical care.

Västra Götaland Region Health and Medical Director Ann Söderström and Infection Control Physician Thomas Wahlberg urge the public to follow the new special general guidelines.
– Now we must all reduce the infection so that no more people get sick! Follow the new tips and avoid meetings, gatherings, and shopping malls.
How is the situation in the hospitals of the region?
– We see that it is increasing in all hospitals, the highest area is the Gothenburg area. There is a slightly different burden on hospitals and it is especially in Gothenburg that we see an increase, says Ann Söderström.
How will care cope with the increased burden?
– We manage spring and have learned a lot from this spring. The most important thing to ensure is access to staff and VAT places, planned care must be postponed so that we can cope with emergency care, says Ann Söderström and continues:
– We have no shortage of protective equipment or medicines as in spring, but now we are much more tired. We have good access to a number of things, but the staff is really very tired now from the pandemic.
Ann Söderström says there are currently no plans to reopen the field hospital at Östra Hospital.
