Vladimir Marugov, 54, was tortured and then shot to death with a crossbow in his own sauna Monday night.

The oligarch is known as the “King of sausages” in Russia. He was killed at his home on the outskirts of Moscow.

An alleged murderer has been arrested.

Vladimir Marugov owned the Köttimperiet company, with some of the largest meat factories in Russia. On Monday night, he was in an outdoor sauna on his plot with his partner when they were attacked by two masked men, who demanded money, the BBC reports.

Sambon managed to escape through a window and immediately went to a neighbor, where he alerted the police. When the police arrived at the scene, they found Marugov dead in the sauna, with a crossbow next to him.

The men disappeared from the scene by car. Later on Monday, the Russian investigative committee (which corresponds to the prosecutor’s office in Sweden) arrested a 49-year-old man in the city of Istra, a mile west of the village of Anosino where the murder took place. The man is now a suspect in Marugov’s murder, the Tass news agency reports.

Before the oligarch was shot dead, they had to torture him to reveal where he kept his money. The two men shot him with crossbow arrows that penetrated the incline, the Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper reports.

– It was meant that it would hurt, but that it would not endanger life. Such injuries were found to the left shoulder and back, a source told the newspaper.

Marugov’s mother, who has spoken to the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, suspects that Marugov’s co-inhabitant, Sabina Gazieva, was involved in the murder. The mother says that at first Vladimir did not want to bathe, but that his partner convinced him to do so. The mother also thinks that it is suspected that the killers simply entered the sauna and avoided the house.

The newspaper states that the couple must have had big fights because the partner had “dangerous habits.”
