Two weeks ago, the number of covid patients in Sweden was 276, now it is according to the latest figures from the regions 627.
In the Stockholm region, more than 200 patients are now being seen, compared to 74 patients on October 20.
– Has increased rapidly. It is increasing just like in the rest of Europe, says Johan Styrud, chief physician at Danderyd Hospital and president of the Stockholm Medical Association.
“It is time to act”
Although the situation was significantly more tense in the spring when more than 2,000 patients were seen at the same time in Sweden, he believes that it is time to act.
– We must be prepared to do what we did this spring, we must be prepared to rebuild the hospital into an epidemic hospital and eliminate all planned activities, says Johan Styrud.
Also in Örebro county, for example, the number of patients has increased rapidly. From October 4 to October 30 today.
– It’s a worrying situation where we see a clear increase in the burden of healthcare, says Martin Widlund, operations manager of the infection clinic in Örebro.
At the same time, increased patient pressure poses great challenges for the staff, who suffered severe difficulties during the spring.
– But we are ready to take care of the patients who are admitted now, says Martin Widlund.
“It stands and weighs”
Several of the regions are asking residents to comply with the recommendations; otherwise, there is a great risk that the situation will get even worse.
– He stops and weighs and it is now that he decides. Anyone who is young and strong and thinks that covid-19 is not that dangerous should think again. It can be an operation or treatment by yourself or by family members that is postponed when care is overloaded by patients with covid-19, says Mikael Köhler, director of health and medical care in the Uppsala region.
