Swedish Crown: Strong increase in Stockholm: “We have lost control”

Since last Friday, more than 3,000 Stockholm residents have tested positive for COVID-19. That’s a bit more than the entire week 43.

The increased spread of the infection, which has occurred since September, did not make much of an impression in the first few weeks in the form of more people being hospitalized.

But now the number of admissions is increasing rapidly. On Monday, 203 patients are treated in the hospital, of which 20 in the intensive care unit. This is an increase of 55 patients since last Friday. Four other infected people have died.

– Now it’s really serious. We have lost our control. We need to get it back, says Björn Eriksson, health care director for the Stockholm region.

According to Björn Eriksson, the reason for the increased spread of the infection is that people in the county do not follow enough advice, such as keeping their distance and washing their hands, according to Björn Eriksson.

– We need to absorb a little more than we do now. We were able to do it this spring and now we have to do it again, says Björn Eriksson, director of healthcare in the Stockholm region.

Stronger advice

On October 29, stricter general councils were introduced in Stockholm County, among other places. It is not yet visible in the numbers because it takes time from when someone becomes infected until the person has symptoms, is tested, has a positive result and possibly is admitted to the hospital.

In the Uppsala region, which was the first in the country to introduce general councils on October 20, the number of infected people has increased dramatically since then. But even there, it is not certain that the majority were infected after the advice was presented according to the infection control doctor there.

– We need to see that fewer people move in society, that people avoid going to parties and being crowded with stores. It has to happen now, says Björn Eriksson.
