Rosengård won – keep the gold battle alive

Rosengård started the game against top-table Uppsala, four points behind league leaders Kopparbergs / Gothenburg.

After the recent cancer crisis, victory was imperative, and after a fireworks display in the second half, the golden dream lives on.

A draw against Vittsjö, a defeat against Kristianstad and before that a cross against Linköping and Umeå meant that defending champion FC Rosengård handed over the gold position to Kopparbergs / Göteborg.

On Sunday afternoon, Rosengård’s victory was required to not give the gold competitor a chance to lift the dent in Växjö on the same day.

No goals in the first half

The first half meant a lot of play against a goal, but Rosengård had a hard time reaching clear scoring chances and after 45 minutes the score was still 0-0.

The second half had no more than five minutes when Mimmi Larsson was brought down in the Uppsala penalty area and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Jelena Cankovic was not wrong and Rosengård had received another golden jump.

The penalty goal would act as a catalyst, ten minutes later Larsson himself headed 2-0 behind a beautiful post from Fiona Brown.

After a tough defensive failure, Beata Olsson reduced, but Rosengård would take three points. When Anna Anvegård pushed 3-1, it felt like the nail in the coffin.

Bennison back

Rosengård had time for two more goals before the game ended. Nathalie Björn came first 4-1 before Jelena Cankovic determined the final score 5-1.

18-year-old superstar Hanna Bennison has finally returned from a long-term injury. It was after meeting Djurgården in August that she was forced to take a break and rehab.

So why was never announced.

Before Sunday’s essential match, Bennison told Sydsvenskan about an overload in the tibia and how she was forced to rest more after being hit by Covid-19.

– I caught a little cold and had a slight fever. It was very difficult to be at home and not be able to train, etc.

Bennison was substituted in the 73rd minute. The game was the first since 17 August.
