Ismail was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife when he was with his friends at Kungsträdgården in Stockholm.

The 19-year-old alleged killer says on questioning that the fight started with one of the men “looking askance.”

– I turn around quickly and cut without thinking, he says.

At 8.30 pm on July 1 this summer, Ismail and his friends were “relaxing” in Kungsträdgården. Just half an hour later, he was murdered by a 19-year-old who is now charged with, among other things, murder and two attempted murders.

Ismail’s friends had previously told Aftonbladet at night that they hung out in the park and were attacked without provocation.

The suspect says during questioning that the origin of the dispute must have been that one of them “looked at him askance.”

– I perceived it as a gloomy look, which means that he stared at me when we passed. So we check it out, we look at each other for about five seconds. It wasn’t a special look, it was just that it caught our attention, he says.

Ismail was killed in Kungsträdgården.

“I have a knife and I will use it”

The man says that he and his friends had gone to shops and been in Strömgatan to see a seal. He had drunk a bottle and a half of black currant wine when he met the men in the park.

– He looked at me frankly. Then I backed off. Just as we passed each other, we turned to each other. He said “What are you looking at?” I said “I’m looking at you bitch.” Then I said, “I have a knife and I’ll use it if you do something, just keep going,” he says.

According to the suspect’s statement, Ismail and his friends approached again and asked for his backpack, to which he refused and received a blow to the head. He says he then escaped and was chased and shot down by several men. He then pulled out his knife and stabbed Ismail and two of the other men.

– I quickly turn around and cut without thinking. So just as a reaction. A quick reaction because I had it in my hand. Then I received several belt bumps to the head, he says.

Claim self defense

Ismail was stabbed three times in the upper body. The suspect believes he acted in self-defense.

– So I’ve never cut before so I don’t really know how it feels to cut someone, but I just remember seeing blood and they screamed a bit, he says.

The man says he was carrying a knife because he is under threat.

– I walk with a knife some days just to protect myself. Not to harm others, of course, but to protect myself and my family. It is definitely not intended for someone to die in this incident, he says.

The man is now charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, aggravated unlawful threats, assault, and unlawful threats.
