He played 128 international matches, scored 305 goals for Sweden, played eight championships and, among other things, won silver at both the Olympic Games and the European Championships.

But now it’s over for handball star Mattias Zachrisson.

Last august That year, the 30-year-old suffered a shoulder injury during training and underwent surgery a week later. Since then the setbacks have been replaced and now he announces that his career is over at the elite level.

– Both I and the medical teams of both the club and the national team have done what we could, but unfortunately the shoulder ball is completely destroyed and I have had to accept the idea that the player’s career is over, says Zachrisson.

Eskilstunasonen, who has represented the German club team Füchse Berlin since 2013, recalls a long and successful career in the national team.

– it is with pride I have worn the shirt of the Swedish national team and I have many wonderful memories of international matches, where perhaps the medals from the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2018 European Championships stand out more.

The greatest achievements at the club level were two club team WC titles, two EHF Cup victories and one German Cup.

– Of course, I would have preferred to decide for myself when I should quit, but I’m still happy to have had so many years at such a high level, says Zachrisson.
