Stockholm city closes museums – restricts sports halls

Earlier this week, the Swedish Public Health Agency issued stricter general advice in several counties, including Stockholm.

One of them was to refrain from showing themselves in indoor environments such as museums, libraries and bathrooms.

The decision to close was made two days after the Public Health Agency presented new advice. This is partly because they wanted to follow development and partly because they didn’t know the new tips would be introduced, says Jonas Naddebo.

The fact that the museums are now closed is also due to the fact that they want to send a clear signal:

– It is important that you make well thought out decisions like this because it has a great effect. We want to emphasize the seriousness of this situation, and that is why we have chosen to close these museums, says Jonas Naddebo.

The municipal museums will be closed from November 1 to November 19.

State Museums in Stockholm

Several museums in Stockholm are state-owned and, although they have not submitted a joint decision, many of them have chosen to close after the new councils.

Jonas Naddebo says it would have been desirable to have a common position, but explains that they have not had time to talk to each other.

– I understand that Stockholmers can get confused, which really matters. That is why we want through this decision

However, the libraries are still open.

– They have a socially important function, says the councilor of the City Council for Culture, Jonas Naddebo (C).

Gym restrictions

Municipal sports halls and bathhouses will not be closed, but restrictions will be introduced.

– Starting tomorrow (Sunday), we will cancel all group training sessions, says the Councilor for Citizen Sports Karin Ernlund (C).

Public driving on the ice rinks also stops.

Karin Ernlund says that everyone will be offered to pause their annual cards until the New Year at no charge.

– We call on all adults not to visit our pools.

However, the association’s activities for children and young people born no later than 2005 will continue.
