In Blekinge, there is an ongoing ban on public gatherings and public events with more than 50 participants. The reason is the increasing spread of the infection: the number of new cases has doubled in a week.
– It is very sad to announce a decision like this just before All Saints Day, when probably many had plans, says the governor of Blekinge, Sten Nordin, at a press conference.
However, no major local restrictions will currently be introduced in Blekinge, as has been done in neighboring Skåne county, among other places.
– So far, we do not have a significant burden on medical care, but it can come, says infection control doctor Bengt Wittesjö.
In Blekinge, a total of four people with covid-19 are treated in the hospital, one of them in the intensive care unit. The number of new cases found is increasing rapidly. In the last seven days, 90 new cases have been identified, the week before there were 37.
– It’s a doubling of the number of new cases in a week, says Bengt Wittesjö.
What is particularly concerning is that the spread of the infection is also occurring among the elderly.
