The European Parliament is restricting the flow of money so that its MPs really stay at home during the current crown crisis.

The department in Brussels that handles the allowances will be closed during November, reports the Politico Europe news site, referring to an internal message to members. The only ones who will be able to withdraw money, equivalent to 3,300 SEK a day, are the members who sit as chairmen of the meeting or participate in important compromise negotiations with the Council of Ministers.

However, not all members appreciate the closure. Croatian Mislav Kolakusic, who is an independent member of the European Parliament, complains bitterly in a letter to his colleagues that “we are closing the doors for fear of a possible cold”.

“Although I know thousands of people, I do not know a single one who has covid-19,” Kolakusic writes according to the Euractiv news site.
