Sensational grave find in Lund just in time for Halloween

Near the Cathedral a complete skeleton has been discovered in a masonry stone coffin. The find is sensational, says archaeologist Adam Hultberg.
– The best we could have hoped for, he says.

No objects were found in the tomb, indicating that the tomb is from the Middle Ages. “During the Viking Age and the Iron Age, many things were taken to the grave. That changed when Christianity made its entrance, ”says archaeologist Adam Hultberg.Image: Emil langvad

Parts of Lund Cathedral are being restored and archaeologists are of course looking for finds. Two graves have already been found and now, just in time for the Night of All Dead Souls, cultural archaeologist Adam Hultberg has received a real hit. Beneath a lowered staircase in the southeast corner of the church, a medieval, coffin-shaped tomb of brick sandstone has been discovered containing an intact skeleton. The eyes and teeth are clearly visible.
