In an interview with Dplay after the final signal, Sirius coach Henrik Rydström opined that AIK midfield star Sebastian Larsson, who received a yellow card towards the end of the match, perhaps should have received two cautions and, therefore, to have been conceited. But Rydström also likes how the national team player faces duels, gets angry on the pitch and puts pressure on the referees.
At the press conference after the 0-0 game, Sirius’ coach is clear that he is above all impressed by Larsson’s way of playing. Despite Rydström receiving a warning from referee Adam Ladebäck for protesting a failed yellow card for “Seb”.
– I’m 100 percent impressed, at least now. Right now, I’m maybe 75 percent frustrated. I do not like that. He is an example for my players, also because of the work he represents. Everything he’s accomplished and how passionate he remains… it’s great that we have that kind of player at the Allsvenskan. It’s something that will inspire gamers, says Rydström and smiles:
– He received a clear warning, but kept talking to the referee for two minutes. Maybe it makes the judge hesitate a bit. It made me hesitate.
Another one who got upset with Larsson during the match is Sirius defender Tim Björkström, who repeatedly pointed out to the referee that the AIK player should be warned.
– That (Sebastian Larsson) is a touch. He likes to talk, run and fight. I think it was a bit ugly at times. Sometimes you have to reconcile, says Björkström.
Björkström thinks the Allsvenskan referees have too much respect for the former Premier League player.
– Too much, I think. He is still a player who has been at the highest level for many years. Sometimes I think they have too much respect, to be completely honest.
– It is clear that he has a good resume, but it is still a football game that we play and then I don’t think the referee can run and give the players advantages, it doesn’t work.
What does Sebastian Larsson say about all this? He states that he “understands what is being said.”
– But I cannot personally say that the judges were in my favor or against me (since the transfer to the Allsvenskan). I think they treat me like most people, Larsson says.
– If you look at my two and a half years at the Allsvenskan, I definitely think I fell short and kicked free just because it was me too. Because I have a reputation for engaging in close combat. So I think that’s 50/50.
