Several municipalities in Sweden now have to grapple with new and stricter advice to stop the growing spread of the coronavirus.
– Unfortunately, it is not over yet, says the Boxholm city council following Thursday’s announcement from the Public Health Agency.
On Thursday, the Swedish Public Health Agency announced decisions on stricter general councils in Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Östergötland.
The number of people infected with the coronavirus in those regions has increased dramatically, increasing the burden on medical care. The number of infected people in special homes for the elderly has also increased, according to the Swedish Public Health Agency.
The general advice includes calls to avoid contact with people you do not live with, refrain from staying in closed public environments and avoid meetings and performances.
– It is important to persevere and persevere and keep your distance. We may now find ourselves with slightly stronger general restrictions. Unfortunately, it is not over yet, says Britt-Marie Johansson (S), president of the municipal board in Boxholm Township.
The bathhouse can close
TT: What can this mean for your municipal activities?
– We have barely had time to swallow this yet, but our city directors had a meeting today and we have discussed possible measures for libraries and restrooms, if we are to close the pool, says Johansson.
Helena Mehner, communications director in Gothenburg, says it is important to act quickly now.
– Now we go out to all companies and point out that there are stricter councils.
TT: Are there businesses that will close?
– I can’t comment on that right now. But if it turns out you can’t handle what the Public Health Agency says, and there’s congestion, we may have to close. We can end up in such a situation.
– It is important that those who can work from home do so. The situation requires a careful analysis of developments and that we act in accordance with the restrictions that have been imposed on us. Now we have to help, says Helena Mehner.
Compliance deficiencies
Linköping municipal director Paul Håkansson says the strictest advice comes from the fact that people have not taken care of themselves.
– It is a lack of compliance in the rather simple advice that has been applied, which has led to student parties, the spread of contagion between hockey teams, private parties in general, which has since spread and intensified, He says.
– If we had been careful, we would not have finished here, but now it is necessary with strong measures for a short time.
TT: What does this mean to you?
– We will be able to influence municipal activities, especially with great effects in the culture and leisure sector.
However, the most important thing is the fulfillment of the individual, says Paul Håkansson.
– It is important that we manage it together during the three weeks that the period applies. If we can, we can relax. I think it went really well this spring and we had a great effect, we have to do it again.
