5,934 people have died from the coronavirus in Sweden after seven new deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. More than 117,000 cases have been identified.
Now stricter general advice is being introduced in Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Östergötland. At the same time, the Uppsala councils will be extended for another two weeks.
– We had an 80 percent increase in the week just ended. We haven’t seen any signs of the increase slowing down this week, says Maria Rotzén Östlund, an assistant infection control physician.
Here are the strictest general guidelines
From October 29 and three weeks onwards, everyone staying in Stockholm, Västra Götaland and Östergötland counties is encouraged to:
Refrain from staying in indoor environments such as stores, shopping centers, museums, libraries, bathrooms, and gyms. Visits to, for example, supermarkets and pharmacies can be made.
Refrain from participating, for example, in meetings, concerts, performances, sports training, matches and competitions. However, this does not apply to sports training for children and youth born in 2005 or later.
If possible, avoid having physical contact with people other than those you live with. This means, among other things, discouraging organizing or participating in a party or similar social gathering.
The advice does not cover necessary close contact, such as during care visits and medical exams. However, it is important to note that anyone with symptoms that could be covid-19 should avoid any close contact with other people.
Stronger advice for companies and workplaces
Activities such as shops, shopping centers, sports facilities and workplaces are also covered by stricter advice:
All activities must take measures so that everyone can follow the general advice in case of local outbreaks of covid-19. This may, for example, mean that the company minimizes the number of visitors at the same time.
Employers must take steps to allow employees to follow general guidelines for local covid-19 outbreaks. These can be measures such as encouraging staff to work from home, offering better conditions to work from home, and postponing business trips, conferences and other physical meetings.
Anders Tegnell says there are signs that fewer and fewer people are working from home.
– A fairly large proportion of the spread of infection takes place in the workplace, says Tegnell.
“The situation is serious”
Maria Rotzén Östlund on the situation in the Stockholm region:
– The situation is serious. Although most people are mildly ill, we have to enter with new and old thoughts. We have to understand that we have to change our behavior now and go back to how it was in the spring so that it does not become what it was in hospitals in March and April. The best we can do is maintain physical distance in different ways.
Furthermore, it says a request was sent to the county administrative board to limit public gatherings to 50 people. Östergötland, Uppsala and Västra Götaland also want to limit the roof.
– I have received a positive advance notice of this and it will be for three weeks from November 1, says Maria Rotzén Östlund.
Tighter general advice after the sharp increase
“Almost an 80% increase over last week.”
