At 09:00 am on Thursday, an assailant with a knife attacked several people.
At least two people have died and several have been injured, French police say.
The attack took place near the Notre Dame church, which is located in the central parts of Nice, writes Le Figaro.
But according to local media, the attack took place inside the church. Nice Matin describes scenes of panic and the police are said to have neutralized the perpetrator with shots.
According to AFP, one victim had his neck cut off.
Mayor: indicates a terrorist attack
French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin signs Twitter:
“A police operation is underway. Avoid the area and follow directions. I am holding a crisis meeting at the Ministry of the Interior.“
The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, is at the scene of the crime.
