On Tuesday, the Swedish Public Health Agency decided to introduce new severe restrictions locally in Skåne after the number of people infected with COVID-19 has recently increased significantly.
The city of Malmö announced at a press conference on Wednesday that certain businesses will be closed. Among other things, parts of the Malmö museums and the Malmö Art Museum.
– The starting point of our activities in culture is that we will remain open but we will have to limit the number of visitors. Most fall break activities will be canceled, says Anne Mattsson, interim cultural director.
He says there has been a lot of pressure on the Malmö libraries, although it is not a meeting place.
– Right now and three weeks from now, we appreciate you not going to our libraries, says Anne Mattsson.
Leisure centers will remain open, but work is constantly being done to avoid congestion on farms and surrounding activities, says Johan Hermansson, Director of Leisure.
The mapping shows the movements of Malmö residents
The city of Malmö has also used mobile data from Telia to map how people have moved around Malmö over the past year. Malmö residents have been shown to move more in society than before the pandemic in certain areas.
In the spring, activities around Hyllie decreased, where the Emporia Mall and Malmö Arena are located at minus 24 percent compared to 2019. In September, attendance increased to more than three percent compared to 2019.
– The decline in the weekends of May is strong. Today we have a greater presence on weekends. These are Swedish mobile phones that we measure, they are not Danish visitors, says Per-Erik Ebbeståhl.
In May, activity around Lilla Torg and Gustav Adolfs Torg had decreased by 40 percent. By September, activity had increased to minus 10 percent compared to 2019.
– On weekends, in principle, we behave as before the crown when it comes to entertainment, says Per-Erik Ebbeståhl.
Similar statistics apply to Möllevången. There, activity had decreased by 25 percent in May, but increased by more than one percent in September compared to 2019. More activity than before the crown.
– What we want to show is that we must begin to assume our own responsibility in these matters. This is a serious situation.
He says they are now looking into concerns before Black Friday, holiday shopping, and noon sales.
– If we cannot reduce the spread of the infection until these weekends, we will have serious challenges, says Per-Erik Ebbeståhl.
Visits allowed to nursing homes
No changes will be made regarding nursing homes. Visits are still allowed.
– We will not close the accommodation, but we will have a dialogue with the visitors and make sure that the visits are carried out in the safest way possible, says Per-Erik Ebbeståhl.
However, it does not rule out that houses can be closed again if the spread of infection goes in the wrong direction.
The health, welfare and welfare administration was scheduled to open its daily activities and meeting places this week, but it has been postponed until November 17 to begin.
