Concerts for a seated pub audience are also included in the new local restrictions in Skåne. This means that concert halls like KB and Slagthuset cannot host their planned concerts for more than 50 guests in November.
At Kulturbolaget in Bergsgatan, a new stage has been built in order to create more intimate concerts for a seated restaurant audience. Wednesday night’s concert with Thorbjørn Risager Trio will be over, but all other planned concerts are now frozen.
Following Tuesday’s announcement of local crown restrictions in Skåne, there was some confusion among county entertainment actors. On October 8, there was a special exemption for restaurants that host concerts. Before that, the rule was a maximum of 50 visitors for all concerts, which meant that if a restaurant had 150 people in the room, they had to send 100 of them if a musician came up on the restaurant stage to sing.
The new exception would address this “illogical situation,” as Culture Minister Amanda Lind called it.
But now the Skåne County Administrative Council announces that the new local restrictions override this decision and apply to all public events from November 1 to November 30.
– Yes, the 50 limit now applies to all meetings. As soon as a restaurant brings an artist onto the stage, it becomes a public gathering and then our new local restrictions apply, says Eva Fjelkner, unit manager in the Administrative Law Unit of the County Administrative Board.
This means that, for example, Kulturbolaget in Malmö is now forced to stop its new planned live investment. After a six-month hiatus from live music, KB on Bergsgatan just built a new, smaller live stage and hired artists like Jenny Wilson, Christian Kjellvander, Torsson, Hästpojken, and more. But now they are not looking to get rid of them.
– No, we will do tonight’s concert with Thorbjørn Risager Trio and then we have stopped everything else, says KB’s Totte Lundgren, who has just been briefed by the police about the effects of the new restrictions.
What are you doing with the concerts scheduled for December?
– We have also stopped sales there. It will just be more work for us to sell and then have to buy again. This will certainly apply for longer than last November. That’s what I think, says Totte Lundgren.
What does this mean for you?
– Not funny, but not so unexpected. We might as well play restaurant instead. The fact that you may still have a running restaurant business makes it completely impossible to understand, Totte Lundgren says.
When Eva Fjelkner of the County Administrative Board receives the question on the logic of the decision, she responds that the decision is necessary.
– We have asked the question to the infection control doctor who has evaluated that we now need this regulation in the future. We need to slow down the infection and we may need to limit it even more, says Eva Fjelkner.
