On Friday morning, it was planned that the Skåne women’s team would play the opening match of this year’s edition of the classic youth ice hockey tournament against Småland at the A3 stadium in Umeå.
But that will not be the case.
The further spread of the corona virus has led to tighter restrictions in parts of the country, including Skåne, and because of this, the Skåne Ice Hockey Association and the Swedish Ice Hockey Association have decided that the television team of Skåne will not participate in this week’s final.
– Obviously, he’s very divided. The girls have been preparing for this for a long time, they had high expectations and figuratively stood on the threshold of the bus, says Göran Stjärnfeldt, president of the Skåne ice hockey association.
He continues:
– But if you turn your hand, it will be an easy decision to make with the support of infection control doctors and the instructions we receive. Boring but inevitable.
According to a new protocol that came to light Tuesday, due to stricter restrictions in the county, teams with players born in 2005 or later cannot play games, tournaments and in connection with that trip. However, they can continue training.
However, elite activities are not affected for the time being, meaning SHL Malmö and Rögle teams can continue to play matches until further notice.
Team Skåne will not be replaced at the TV Puck women’s tournament and have not previously been represented on the men’s side in the final game.
– First of all, I know the team and all the leaders in this situation. That said, I also have great respect for the new restrictions that were introduced yesterday and based on the restrictions, we have made this decision in conjunction with infection control in Skåne, says competition director Olof Östblom on the website of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association.
– From an infection control point of view, we do not see that it is possible to bring in another team on such short notice before the tournament, so we are now reviewing how we solve the game schedule in the best way, he continues.
The TV album takes place between October 29 and November 1.
